1. During the Second Beit HaMikdash (500 BCE) the Roman Empire decreed heavy laws against Jewish practices and tried to eradicate religion from the lives of the Jews (meaning did not allow for any Torah learning or Mitzvot-related deeds/events). The Romans put a ton of pressure on our ancestors, took their money and daughters/wives and went in to our Beit HaMikdash and defaced the Kodash HaKodashim by making the holiest room in the world impure. There was so much suffering and pain throughout the Jewish nation that Hashem had mercy on us and saved us by giving power to the Hashmonaim. This victory (that prevailed for more than 200 years under Jewish law and kingship) continued with the famous Chanukah Miracle. Because of this Miracle that began on 25 Kislev (in 19 days), the Rabbanim stated that these 8 days should be days of Hallel and Simcha! Therefore we light candles every night to celebrate and publicize the Miracle of Chanukah.
2. It is recommended and correct to learn the Halchot (laws) of Chanukah during the holiday of Chanukah itself in order to know the details of the Halachot. [Therefore we will begin posting only Chanukah Halachot until the end of the Chag].
