KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT BECHOL YOM MUVTACH LO SHEH'HOO BEN HA'OLAM HABA

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:

1. One needs to be very cautious and stringent during Shabbat Teshuva (this Shabbat that befall us with only good news BH) in all areas and stringencies of Hilchot (the laws of) Shabbat, including speaking divrei hol (weekly issues such as business, politics, etc.) and in regards to anything involving a non-Jew to do a melacha for a Jew (where many people are lenient in regards to these Halachot year round).

2. The seven days between Rosh HaShanah until Yom Kippur (which began this past Wednesday and ends on Tuesday before Yom Kippur Tuesday night) are mirror images of all the past week days that have befallen us this past year. Therefore one should be extra cautious to do Teshuva on each day symbolizing all the past weekdays for the last year. For example, today on Friday one should have the intention of fixing all their damaging actions in all the past Fridays of the year by doing Mitzvot and general Ma’asim Tovim throughout the day.

3. A Jew above the age of 13 who was locked into a room on Shabbat is allowed to break down the door and cause any damage to the door/lock, even if it means to violate the prohibition kilkul (damaging) on Shabbat, in order to do the Mitzvah of Oneg Shabbat.

4. If a Jew lost the apartment key and is unable to get into his/her apartment, he/she cannot be lenient and as a non-Jew to breakdown the door. Rather, this Jew should enjoy Shabbat by his/her neighbors or relatives. If a Jew has no place to stay on Shabbat in this situation and is in deep sorrow from the idea of not participating in the Mitzvah of Oneg Shabbat, he/she can tell a non-Jew to break down the apartment door. It is best to tell the non-Jew to tell his/her non-Jewish friend to perform the action.

Some Minhagim (customs) people tend to take upon themselves for this special Shabbat, Shabbat Teshuva from the book Yesod VeShoreh Ha’Avoda: People tend to be stringent in all areas of Hilchot Shabbat, avoid any form of idle chatter/conversation regarding weekday matters, stay in strict Yirat Shamayim (Fear of Heaven) throughout the entire Shabbat and therefore his/her sins of the whole year are atoned for. People also should go dip in a cold Mikveh on Shabbat Teshuva if they can and after the Shaharit Seuda (Shabbat Kiddush meal) they should go to Shul and read Tehillim until Minha.

Shabbat Shalom and Gemar Hatima Tova!
