CLD #690

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L & Yissachar ben Yona Z’L.
Before we begin theCLD we would like to remind everyone of a crucial tip to do before Yom Kippur enters tomorrow evening. From all the Txts and messages we will be receiving throughout the day tomorrow reminding us to reply “Yes, of course I forgive you!” and the like, we need to remember out parents. It is easy to ask for forgiveness from our friends who we have not spoken to in a month, but our parents who we take so little advantage of, that is something a billion times more important than your friend. Therefore, the Halachot books (Jewish Law) explain to go up to your parent(s) and kiss the back of their hands and ask for forgiveness for all the attitude, lack of respect, answering-back moments and everything in between throughout the year.

Now for theCLD: In the past week all theCLDs have been packed with the concept and importance of doing Teshuva (repentance) and taking it upon oneself to really stop sinning. The question is why? Its because the ‘metrocard’ for entering the secured doors of Yom Kippur with a “clean slate” is Teshuva and the declaration of not continuing the sin. Without this truthful act of Teshuva from the heart, no one can pass Yom Kippur.

Rav Shimshon Pinkus ZT’L teaches from the Gemara Masechet Keritut (18b) that the day of Yom Kippur itself atones for sin! But the single condition that goes along with that must be stressed: the only way Yom Kippur atones for sin is if we already did Teshuva beforehand. EVEN IF ITS 24 HOURS BEFORE! The whole inyan (concept) of Yom Kippur is the Siyata Dishmaya (Help from the Heavens).

What is it like? When a construction site has thousands of tons of metal blocks sitting on the floor and they need to lift it to a 40-story building they use a crane. Once these blocks are in the air even the tiniest wind can push it left and right. The same is with us, we are so heavy with sin! The entire year we run around doing who knows what with such aimless directions. Then Hashem lifts us to great spiritual heights where there is no chance we can do it alone. Then it is up to us, with the power of Yom Kippur to continue in that direction, because Hashem did all the work already!

Therefore the only way to reach this spiritual high THAT CAN STICK WITH US THE ENTIRE YEAR is by doing Teshuva beforehand. The power of Teshuva is enormous. There is only 24 hours left to abuse this rahamim (mercy) system! Take advantage just like you take advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Time is running out. Judaism=Think.
Gemar Hatima Tova!
