CLD #682

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L, Yissachar ben Yona ZT’L and Haviva bat Yocheved Z’L.

Are you ready for Rosh HaShanah? Just so you know, Rosh HaShanah is the day of din (judgment), where EVERYTHING that will happen in the upcoming year is decided, everything. Therefore: let’s look at the mercy (rahamim) Hashem has on us (the entire Jewish nation around the globe) and the exact reason why Hashem has Rosh HaShanah fall on the first day of the month. After all, every holiday usually falls in the middle of the month (Hebrew month), so what is so merciful about Hashem writing in the Torah that one should enjoy Rosh HaShanah specifically on the 1st day of the 7th month?

The answer is beautiful and it was taught to me by Rav Levy shlit’a from the set of Eyn Yaakov which brings down specific Gemarot (Talmud) and has commentary on it. The Gemara in Masechet Rosh HaShanah explains from a Pasuk in Tehillim (Perek 81) that the moon is ‘covered’ during the Holdiay of THE JUDGMENT. In the peshat (simple) level, this is referring to Rosh HaShanah which falls on the first day of the month. But what is so special about the moon being covered? Who cares? The commentary, the Gaon Yaakov, explains that the Satan (devil) brings before Hashem all the sins of the nation on Rosh HaShanah and wants to prosecute against us.

Hashem says: bring 2 witnesses because everything in Judaism revolves around 2 witnesses. The Satan tries to bring the sun and the moon, but the moon is dark on Rosh HaShanah and does not show any light because it’s the first of the month! Therefore, because of Hashem’s set rules of nature we learn the mercy behind everything He does! The Satan has no witnesses on Rosh HaShanah to prosecute and cause Hashem to judge unfavorably.

This teaches us: 1. We only have one more day before the year ends, we better make it spiritual before the Satan tries to prosecute against us, 2. HASHEM LOVES US WITH A LIMITLESS AMOUNT OF LOVE, 3. No matter where we are spiritually we can always fall and depend on Hashem and 4. Don’t stop pushing and fighting and jumping to reach your spiritual goals, EVER!

It’s the final lap in the race people, let’s make it count and show Hashem we want to have a life filled with His Torah and Mitzvot! May we be written in the Book of Life and have a spiritually uplifting EVERYTHING!

SHAVUA TOV!
