For the Ilui
Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel For the Refua Shlema of Yaakov Hai
ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. This knowledge is simple to avoid reading newspapers in
Shul, even if they are newspapers that Rabbis gave a heter (perimission) to read.
One should break their custom to read newspapers in general because it causes
one to lose time from Torah learning.
2. One should avoid kissing his/her children in Shul because
at Shul one should show love only for Hashem. The minhag (custom) of people kissing one another in Shul, especially
the person who stepped down from going up to the Torah should be abolished in
Shuls, especially in Israel where it is not found. However, this should be
stopped and explained to the congregation in a courteous manner. If this causes
an argument, one should not make a big deal out of it because its just general
respect for one another and nothing against the love for Hashem. On the other
hand, one may kiss the hand of his father and Rabbi in Shul and there is no
problem with this.
