KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT BECHOL YOM MUVTACH LO SHEH'HOO BEN HA'OLAM HABA

L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
From Hazon Ovadya:

1. In the beginning of Lel 14th of Nissan (after sunset Thursday night) one checks their home for Chametz by candlelight. The time to do this is after Tzet HaKochavim, after nightfall (around 8:07pm EST). One still fulfills the obligation of Bedikat Chametz even if they began checking their home by candle light before the appropriate time Bediavad (least best alternative). It is also correct to continue searching into the nighttime because it is a serious matter.

2. One should check places that include holes, cracks, corners of the home, the staircase, hallways, the dining table area, the refrigerator and all places where food might have been eaten. Even though one is certain they have not eaten Chametz in a specific room in the home that does not mean they should not check that room for Chametz. Especially when someone has children present in their home, they should check places such as underneath the bed or closet/shelves/drawers to see if Chametz is present there.
