For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. Lehavdeel
For the Refua Shlema of Chai Yaakov ben Margalit shlit’a.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. According to the Great Arizal, the one who is cautious
from touching/seeing/consuming anything Chametz related receives great help
from Shamayim (the Heavens) throughout the year to avoid sinning. Therefore,
before 14th of Nissan, Am Yisrael has the minhag to clean all rooms
in the home so no Chametz will be present during Pesach. We also tend to check
children’s pockets and school bags to make sure all Chametz has been disposed.
However, we do not need to check them again by candlelight when doing Bedikat
Chametz.
2. From the start of nightfall on the 14th of
Nissan (Thursday night), we check the home for Chametz using candlelight. The
time to begin Bedikat Chametz is
after Tzet HaKochavim (the appearance of 3 stars). Bediavad, the least best
alternative, is to fulfill the obligation of Bedikat Chametz after Sunset and
before Tzet HaKochavim. If one has done this mistake of checking their home
before Tzet HaKochavim, then they should continue checking even after they
finished after Tzet HaKochavim (8:06pm).
