CLD #537

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L. This is for the safety of all Am Yisrael suffering from the Palestinian rockets as we speak!
Baruch Hashem, this morning we read Parashat Ki Tisah. This Parasha is packed with unbelievable pieces of inspiration that show us the love Hashem has for us. One thing that this Parasha speaks about before getting into the famous story of the Chet Ha’Egel is the Ketoret. The Ketoret, which is the herbal sacrifice on the small Mizbeach (alter), was a gift given to Moshe when he went up to Shamayim (the heavens) to receive the Torah by the Sameach Mem (Satan). This herbal sacrifice atones for the sins of Am Yisrael, especially the sin of Lashon Hara (speaking trash and gossip about others, even if its true).
Another phenomena of the Ketoret is that its smell was so rich, special and potent that it would reach Yericho (Jericho) and the goats there would sneeze from the scent! The Gemara Yoma here shows the strength the incense from the Ketoret had! We see from the Ketoret a physical miracle as well as a spiritual miracle. From the goats of Yericho all the way to the spiritual worlds and the atonement of Am Yisrael’s we see the Ketoret is not such a simple thing. Even though it is made of 11 species and burned everyday twice a day in the Beit HaMikdash there was something additionally special about the Ketoret.
This special herbal sacrifice had smoke coming from it that would rise directly upwards to the Shamayim as far as the eye could see in one straight verticle line. No matter what winds, rain or snow would come from the sky this line of smoke would always be rising directly upwards to the sky.
What can we learn from this miracle (that only occurred during the First Beit HaMikdash)? Just like the smoke that rose directly up to Hashem in a straight line without moving right or left, so too we need to live our lives with Hashem as the optical motivating factor. We must do whatever we can to protect our Kedusha that stems from our Neshama (purity from our souls). Each and everyone of us has an invisible rope that can never be disconnected from Hashem. We all have the potential but the question is: Have we all learned about the tons of advantages we receive by living a life according to the Torah?

B’H we will realize from the miracle of the Ketoret’s smoke not to move left or right from the Halacha and the word of Hashem.

SHAVUA TOV!
