CLD #528

For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
There is a certain Limud in the Gemara on Purim, Masechet Megillah that includes an important piece of advice that every person, Jewish or non-Jewish, to take into account in their everyday life. This piece of advice is always to do something with completion.
In Masechet Megillah, there is a Machloket on a matter of reading the Megillah and what it means to fulfill the obligation of Kriyat haMegillah on Purim. As we all know, there is an obligation to read/listen to Megillat Esther on 14 Adar night and day. With this in mind, the Chachamim (Sages) in the Gemara discuss where is the latest place in the actual book of Esther where one can begin reading and still fulfill the Mitzvah of Reading the Megillah. There are four main opinions that state the Pasuk where one technically must begin reading from in order to be considered as fulfilling the Mitzvah. The first is the entire Megillah must be read in order to fulfill the reading, the second is from where Achashverosh appoints Haman as a higher ranked official in the government, the third is where the Megillah first speaks about Mordechai, and the final opinion that states where the Megillah must be read in order to fulfill the Mitzvah of reading the megillah is the Pasuk where Achashverosh startlingly wakes up in the middle of the night to search who he might have forgotton to reward for saving his life (Mordechai).
Anyway, the importance and what we learn from this comes from the following: The Gemara concludes that one can actually begin reading from the Pasuk about Mordechai “Ish Yehudi…” and can be considered as if they have done the Mitzvah of Kriyat haMegillah. However, this only holds true if the Megillah that person was reading from was fully written out, meaning all the Pesukim (verses) before this Pasuk are also written down on the Special Cow Hide that makes up the Megillah.
What does this teach us? Am Yisrael are always striving for perfection and success. We need to first live off a foundation that is solid and stable, such as the Torah HaKdosha, in order to advance in life.  Am Yisrael always needs to have a background of completion or something that is at perfection.
Being part of Am Yisrael (being Jewish) means that we have a extra strong connection with Hashem that can be ignited and electrified with Holiness on a 24/7 timeframe! With Purim down the corner and Shabbat Zachor hours away, we cannot let this crucial time of self reflection go free. We need to take these hours and days to be Mitbonen on our life and see how we can perfect ourselves to reach completion with our Emunah in Hashem and overall trust that Hashem is always helping us.

Judaism=Think.
