For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Rav Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto wrote about powerful concepts in
Judaism. One of them is in his book called Chazon Yoshiyahu, which is a
collection of his daily e-mail Dvar Torahs, is about the Spiritual Power of
Wearing Tzitzit.
He says like this: There are certain Mitzvot that one takes
upon him/herself that their strength and segula
(treasure) stands in the defense of the person in difficult times of hardships.
Therefore one should take upon himself to be more consistent with these Mitzvot
and influence others to follow in his/her path of strength and positive energy.
However, there is a single Mitzvah that its segulot are enormous, which is the
Mitzvah of wearing a Tallit Katan (Tzitzit under your clothing). Rav Pinto
brings the Kaf HaChaim (which was a Huge Talmid Chacham that came out with the
Sephardic Version of the Mishnah Berurah in the early 1900’s), who wrote that
Tzitzit has the spiritual force of defending someone from all the Negative and
Destructive Angels! It is also written in the Zohar (Kabbalah) that whoever
wears a Tzitzit is saved from the Evil Eye!
There is also a famous story in the Gemara of someone who
was very stringent on always wearing Tzitzit, it would not matter if he is late
for work or for class or for his shiur, he would always throw on his Tzitzit.
One day he heard of a prostitute who was for the elite class customers, she
cost 400 Zehuvim, which is an
enormous amount of money. He traveled to her for a long time and reached her
home. He entered and saw she was on top of 7 layers of beds. Six were made of
pure silver and the seventh of pure gold and in between each bed there was a
silver ladder that would connect the two. She went up together until they both
reached the top. In the process of taking off his clothes, the customer had his
tzitzit hit him across the face. He suddenly stopped the whole ritual and ended
the night. Long story short this prostitute became a CONVERT!
There is another Midrash that says during the chase of David
HaMelech, Shaul the current King went inside a cave to use the bathroom. During
his stay, David HaMelech sneaked up on Shaul and cut off his Tzitzit! It is
written in the same pamphlet that when one cuts off Tzitzit it is like cutting
off the owner’s head!
The power of Tzitzit is endless. And this is only a single
Mitzvah in the whole Torah!
