For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Mekor Chaim Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:
1. It is forbidden on Erev Shabbat (Friday) to join in on a
meal/festive lunch that one is abnormal to have on a regular day, even if it’s
a meal for an engagement Lichvod Shabbat
(to respect the Shabbat) by having a big apetite for the Lel Shabbat Dinner. It
is allowed to begin a meal that one is used to having everyday of the week on
Erev Shabbat, however it’s a Mitzvah to avoid this lunch from nine Jewish hours
because one will forget to prepare for Shabbat and instead be involved with
this meal.
2. A meal that its time falls on Erev Shabbat (Friday) like Pidyon HaBen or a Brit Milah is allowed because it is a Seudat Mitzvah (meal to celebrate a Mitzvah) and one should not
delay it for Shabbat. However, it is a Mitzvah to make the meal as early as
possible Lichvod Shabbat.
