For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. Whoever bought a new piece of clothing, even if they have
a similar piece of clothing has the opportunity to say the Full Beracha with
Hashem’s name of Shehecheyanu. Even
though from the basis of Halacha one should have said the Beracha when buying
the clothing, the minhag is to say the Beracha when wearing it for the first
time. On clothing that is not so interesting, such as shoes, underwear, tees,
and the like, one should not say the Beracha. If one buys a car or gold gifts
for his wife or anything that makes him/her happy, the minhag is to say Birkat
Shehecheyanu on a new article of clothing while having the intention of saying
it also for the gift/gold/car.
2. One might think because he/she has reached the age of
Shivim (70) or Gevurot (80), they can say the Beracha of Shehecheyanu. However,
one should buy a new piece of clothing instead and say the Beracha of the
clothing while having the intention of thanking Hashem for reaching this
birthday age.
