For the Ilui Neshama of Avraham ben Ester ZT’L.
Translated from Yalkut Yosef:
1. It’s a Mitzvah for both men and women to shower/bathe oneself in hot water on Friday
specifically Lichvod Shabbat (to
respect the Shabbat). If one cannot shower fully, then they should wash their
arms and face with warm water Lichvod Shabbat. Even one who is learning on
Friday and has not showered yet must stop from Learning Torah in order to
shower Lichvod Shabbat. One should also attempt to go dip in the local Mikveh Lichvod
Shabbat. One shouldn’t shower to close to the time of Candle Lighting to avoid
the possibility of Lechalel Shabbat (desecrate the Shabbat).
2. If one’s hair is long, it’s a Mitzvah to get a haircut
Lichvod Shabbat during Erev Shabbat (Friday). If one is unable to get a haircut
on Friday, they should get one on Thursday. If one’s nails are long, its also a
Mitzvah to cut them Lichvod Shabbat on Friday. One is not allowed to throw the
cut nails on the floor, unless they are in a place where women do not walk
upon, such as the men’s section in Bet Knesset (shul) or in a Bet Midrash
(sounds weird to throw nails away on the Bet Knesset floor but this is directly
translated from Yalkut Yosef).
