L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester. Also for SHALOM in Eretz
Yisrael!
From Ve’En Lamo Michshol:
1. There are those who say taping glasses and saying LeChayim is a minhag of Goyim (custom of Goyim). However, for those who do this, they have something to rely on (they have some sort of permission) because they do this to include all five sense before drinking a glass. Nevertheless, one should say the Bracha on the dirnk before saying LeChayim, because it is more important to say a Bracha and respect Hashem rather than respect others and drink LeChayim. Therefore, when saying LeChayim in public/on the table, one should say the bracha quietly and then get everyone’s attention.
2. There are those who say that wearing a red string is like following the ways of Emori (Goyim). For the ones who are lenient and do wear these strings, one should not rebuke them. However, is it recommended to explain to them that one should not do this, rather one should turn to Hashem and pray to Him, which is the best ‘good luck charm.’
