L’yilui Nishamt Avraham ben Ester, Shahin Shmuel
ben Hadassa &
Israel Ben Rivka.
From Yalkut Yosef:
1. After Tefillat Arvit (Lel Shabbat-Friday night) one
should hurry home to do Kiddush, because it is a Mitzvah to say Kiddush to make
the day holy as early as possible. Therefore, one should not delay by speaking
with other people who prayed in Shul with him, rather one should respectfully
leave Shul and hurry home. There are those who have the minhag to bless their children before/after the Kiddush, and it is
correct for the children to kiss the hands of their parents after Kiddush.
2. The Mitzvah of Kiddush on Lel Shabbat needs to be said
before the Netilat Yadayim for the Seudat Shabbat. This is the obvious Minhag for all those who follow the
Nosach of Edot HaMizrach. For those who do Netilat Yadayim before, they need to
change their custom.
3. It’s a Mitzvah from the Torah to do Kiddush because we
need to Lizkor (remember) Yom HaShabbat (the day of Shabbat), and by doing
Kiddush one remembers the Shabbat from Creation. Chachamim (the Sages) say to
do this act of Lizkor et Yom HaShabbat by saying Kiddush on wine.
