Shulchan Aruch Set |
For the Refua Shlema of Moshe ben Mazal.
Imagine if there were two roads a Jew could take. What does that mean?
500 years ago the Shulchan Aruch (set of Halachot that Am Yisrael use today to follow the Torah) was constructed by the worldwide famous Bet Yosef from Eretz Yisrael (Tzfat to be exact). At the same time in Poland the Ramah was constructing his own Shulchan Aruch. The Ramah saw that the Bet Ysoef did a similar job and he published the Shulchan Aruch first, so he simply added his own additions based on the Polish tradition.
The Beit Yosef |
What could the Ramah have done? He could of published his own Shulchan Aruch with his additions to the Bet Yosef and completely begin an entire different path to take for Polish Jews and Ashkenazi Jews in general. Imagine Hashem Yerachem what this could have created = literally two different ways to live a Jewish life, one based on the Bet Yosef’s Halachot and one based on the Ramah’s Halachot!
But NO! The Ramah did not want to create a Religious Civil War so IN HIS MODESTY he only added these side notes to the Bet Yosef’s Shulchan Aruch.
What is this like? Imagine Hashem creating Three sexes instead of two, where there were two male sexes that were slightly different and there was only one female sex where the males would need to fight in order to reproduce. There would be war and chaos throughout the world. The same goes for the Ramah greatness. His modesty shows us that one sometimes needs to give up their Kavod in order to create more peace and unity throughout Am Yisrael.
B’H we should all live our lives based on what will be better for Klal Yisrael throughout the world.
