From Ve'En Lamo Michshol:
1. Its better to refrain from eating Ice Cream and/or cake during a Seuda [where one says HaMotzi which has the strength to cover all foods, except foods such as these that cause a disagreement whether one needs to say a Bracha for their consumption]. Therefore its better just to do Birkat HaMazon (after Mayim Achronim) and then say a Bracha on the Ice Cream and/or cake separately. However, if one does want to eat these foods during the Seuda, no Bracha is needed.
2. There are many warnings about eating bugs/insects from the Torah, and eating vegetables such as lettuce or even "Nana" (mint tea leaves) without checking for bugs is worse than eating pig. Also easting bugs causes one to spiritually make his Nefesh dirty, or making his Nefesh Tameh (impure). Therefore one should be strict to check veegtables such as : Dates, Guyava, Rice, Figs, Cabbage, Cellentro, etc. Therefore bigger vegetables that are easier to check for bugs should be bought and checked for as long as one can before eating.
From HaBayit HaYehudi on Sefirat HaOmer:
1. Spharadim and those who follow Nusach Edut HaMizrach have the custom not to get a haircut or shave until the morning of the 34th day of the Omer (which falls out on the morning of May 23rd). If one is truly upset/sad (in Tza'ar/suffering) then he may shave the beard Lichvod Shabat on Erev Shabat (Friday) specifically for Shabat Kodesh. Also if one may have monetary loss (not embarassment at work), such as getting fired or worse from growing a Beard, he may shave Lichvod Shabat. One should not try to find ways to shave, rather do the Custom with happiness because a Beard is a glue for Spiritual Power.
2. Women should be stringent not to get a haircut during the days of the Omer, if the haircut is not needed.
