KOL HASHONEH HALACHOT MUVTACH LO SHEHOO BEN HAOLAM HABA

1. One who sends cigarettes or snorting tabacco as Manot for Mishloach Manot does not fulfill his obligation because it is not considered foods, even if the sender knows his friend smokes and/or snorts tabacco. A Talmid Chacham/Yeshiva student cannot fulfill his obligation by sending his friend a Dvar Torah.

2. A beverage is considered a type of food for the Mishloach Manot basket because a drink is in fact part of a meal. Even if one sends his friend two beverages he fulfills his obligation of Mishloach Manot on Purim Day. It is best to send food, meaning two different types of foods. If one sense two pieces of the same type of food and puts them in separate plates/bowls, he does NOT do the Mitzvah properly. BUT if someone sends two different types of meats, each from different parts of the animal's body, he does fulfill his obligation of Mishloach Manot since the two meats are different in taste and nature. One who sends a piece of bread along with a cooked food fulfills his obligation also.
