1. Everyone is obligated to send his friend two pieces of foods that are different or two cooked foods or two pieces of raw meat to fulfill Mitzvat Mishloach Manot as it says in Megillat Ester "U'Mishloach Manot Ish L'Re'ehu," meaning two types of food to a single person. If someone decides to send more than one Mishloach (package), then may he be praised. If he doesn't have anything to give, he should switch meals during Seudat Purim with his friend, so they both fulfill Mishloach Manot. This mitzvah can only be done during the day.
2. One sending a live chicken (I was cracking up when I read this) does not fulfill the obligation of Mishloach Manot, but one who sends raw meat does. One who sends clothing or sheets does fulfill his obligation for Mishloach Manot. One who sends money equivalent to two different types of foods as Mishloach manot does not fulfill his obligation. It is customary to send sweet foods in the Mishloach.
