The difference between a religious city and a non-religious city is remarkable. Putting the financial situation in cities around the world and the number of people who are considered 'poor' aside, the difference between Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh and lehavdeel alphei havdalot NYC cannot be explained. When one walking down the street in NYC he/she hears real chidushim, mainly curses you never heard of in your life from the intellectual mouths of teenage girls (who look like monsters in size), who wear the tightest clothing (making them less attractive). Another beautiful and holy thing about NYC is the subway, where you see what it really means to follow one's body, meaning what? You constantly see the men on the train examining every piece of meat (women) on the train, thank G-d spotting a same-sex oriented person is rare, literally scrutinizing every inch of their bodies. A guy's eyes jumps like a hardware malfunction or a virus or something. Its really crazy to think about it because if we were to channel these energies into things that can make life better NYC would be 20 times more efficient in terms of cleanliness, technology, behavior between people, education, etc. Why is Yerushalayim Ir HaKodesh so different? One answer: limud Torah. Because of the heavy heavy amount of Torah that is learnt in the city, the air is more holy, the people think more spiritually, and its simple that everything is a lot happier. Even though the financial situations are opposite in these two cities, after being even 2 weeks in Yerushalayim you can feel the difference in terms of happiness and overall fulfillment as a person (religion aside). The people walking with tehillim in their hands, the purity seen in the faces of people walking by, the respect one has for someone who is Shomer Negiya (a.k.a. Jewish), the smiles are all worth billions of dollars (which is very rare to find in NYC).
