CLD #147

What is a ba'al ga'ava (someone who is haughty/arrogant)? Who is an anav (modest person)?
Baruch Hashem we have the zchut to walk around through the rova/old city and as we know we need to delve ourselves in the Torah HaKdosha even " UvLechtecha Vaderech" (even at times when we are walking around). So I had the zchut to hear some torah from a ben torah. He told me that a ba'al ga'ava is someone who goes out of his way to show that Hashem's way of intrsutcing us the way of life is incorrect. How does one do this? By sleeping in, not even fighting the urge to be with women, not listening to the gdolei hador of our time, etc. All these examples show that we think we know how to live life better than the holy torah's way (a.k.a. Hashem's way)! When we tell ourselves "No way I am waking up at 7 to go to minyan," we are in fact saying: sleeping in is better for me than listening to G-d and praying with a minyan!
Who is an anav?
An anav is someone who completely gives up his life to serve Hashem. He revolves his schedule around minyanim, 2 hr minimum torah study ("VeHagita Bo Yomam <1 hr> VaLayla <1 hr>), hitbonenut, etc. Nice Fact: We pray/bow down like an anav because we symbolize bending down and ignoring our inner urges for Hashem BaShamayim.

B'H May we all have the zchut to take it upon ourselves to do one tiny thing to get closer to perfect our middah of anava and become an anav. Maybe we should start by saying thank you to Hashem for everything he does for us.
