Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:

1. The simple bottle of wine manufactured/produced by Christians, who are idol worshippers, is prohibited in any beneficial form and their touch of our wine makes it prohibited for us as well. One is not allowed to sell or give Ya’in Nesech (this type of prohibited wine) to a goy as a gift; rather they should disperse of it and flush it down the toilet. Wine made by Arabs who do not worship idols and believe in a single G-d can be used to benefit from, except for drinking (to prevent any relationships occurring with their women and our men).

2. If there is a doubt that an Arab has touched your wine bottle or that it is ya’in nesech it is still allowed to gain benefit from, even to drink out of. However, if there is a doubt in regards to Christians, one needs to be strict and not use or drink the wine.

Sometimes the Yezter Hara (Evil Inclination) comes at you like a Mugger on the streets of New York City. Out of nowhere he pulls out a fake gun or knife and tells you to give him your money, your watch, your purse, etc. (The money symbolize Mitzvot and the act of handing it over means giving in to our forbidden desires.)

We do not have a choice so we hand over everything. A simple Jew is trying to survive this spiritual battle that is happening constantly. Whether we are sleeping in the lowest spiritual place in the world or living amongst the biggest Tzadikkim in Yerushalayim; the Yetzer Hara gets to everyone sometimes.

We need to understand BS’D that Hashem is the one running the show at the end of the day and all these challenges and spiritual obstacles are here to make us work and earn our spiritual rewards. The fact that Hashem has the Yezter Hara in our daily lives is a gift that is difficult to see unless we work on ourselves to overcome those obstacles. Therefore, we must learn to see the Yezter Hara as a Mugger who does not really want to take our money. Rather he wants to greaten it and make sure we do not even get on the same street as he is on. The Yetzer Hara is in our daily lives for us to learn to live with this impure power and overcome it.

For example, if we have a desire to have non-Kosher fast food and we G-d forbid have fallen to order a small non-Kosher French fries from our local fast food location, we need to be alert for the next time. When passing by that next place or having that desire to eat the entire fast-food location’s desserts or whatever the case, we need to tell ourselves how did we fall. What did we do to reach that low point? Do we want to get back there? Obviously not.

B’H we should all live our lives with yeshuv da’at (clarity) and Simcha (happiness) to serve Hashem to best of our capabilities. Don’t get on the street where crime usually happens! Be smart and think.

Translated from Yalkut Yosef Kitzur Shulchan Aruch:

1. Be’Ikar HaDin, in the base of the Halacha, there is no obligation to check a finished Sefer Torah with the latest machine that checks Sifrei Torah for a mistake. In any event, it is suggested and correct to do so. However, one cannot completely rely on the machine to check for any mistakes compared to a Sofer (a person who writes Sifrei Torah), as we are accustomed to.

2. It is a Mitzvah for a Sephardic Kehila to read from a Sefer Torah with Sephardic writing and for an Ashkenazi Kehila to read from a Sefer Torah with Ashkenazi writing, in order to prevent the straying away from our ancestors’ customs. However; from the basis of Halacha, there is no prohibition for a Sephardic Jew to go up to a Torah with Ashkenazi writing because there is no difference in the letters. One who avoids going up to a Torah unlike his background is acting like a person who is speaking gossip and bashing a Sefer Torah, Has VeShalom (G-d forbid).
